H.E. Dr George Abela, President of Malta and Patron of the Society, presented the Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce’s Gold Medal for 2012 to Mr Trevor Zahra in recognition for his contribution to the Maltese literary scene.
The ceremony was held at Palazzo de La Salle, and was compered by Council Member Ms Dorothy Meli, in a progamme offering readings of extracts from Zahra’s works by Ms. Graziella Galea accompanied on the guitar by Mr. Vince Fabri; an appreciation of Trevor Zahra’s literary contribution by Dr. Mario Cassar and a personal recollection on Trevor Zahra by Mr. Richard Zahra.
In his brief introduction to the event, the President of the Society, Judge Joseph A. Filletti, highlighted the literary contribution made by some of the Presidents of the Society, among others, Prof. Guze Aquilina and Prof. Guze Galea, as well as, mentioning the various literary events the Society had undertaken along the years. Special praise was also given to the recipient of the award, Mr. Trevor Zahra.
Following the presentation of the Gold Medal and Certificate, H.E. Dr Abela concluded the event by making a short speech highlighting Mr Zahra’s prolific career.
