iMprint is a unique event in Malta. The aim of iMprint is to encourage appreciation and awareness of original printmaking as an artistic medium. It is Malta’s only exhibition dedicated to original prints by some of the best Maltese and foreign printmakers. Founded by Jesmond Vassallo in 2013, iMprint has now become a biennial event which is eagerly awaited by Malta’s artists and public. The works of 25 local contemporary printmakers will be exhibited at this year’s fourth edition of iMprint. Look out for the weekly posts on the Facebook Page linked below to learn more about each artist!
The curator of iMprint IV, Dr Christian Attard, explains his vision behind the theme of this year’s exhibition:
“GRAFIKA: Of Form and Image, takes the idea of printmaking as a set of processes which, even if essentially reined in by the seasoned artist-practitioner, could never be completely conquered. The end result – the impression – is thus the result of very specific and meticulous processes as much as the result of the many variables, chance results, flukes, effects of materiality and extraneous factors which will take place as the process moves from one state to the next. Thus, moods, sensations and aesthetic responses, which are elicited by the printed image, are the result of a series of actions and reactions that occasionally may lie well outside the full authority of the artist-practitioner. The resulting impression, thus, has something of the mystical qualities of an ‘Acheiropoieta’ image, an image that was carried out without the intervention of human hands.”
