Walking the Coastline – A solo exhibition by Matylda Jarosz

18 August | 7:00 pm - 31 August | 7:00 pm

Walking the Coastline – A solo exhibition by Matylda Jarosz

Walking the Coastline presents a series of paintings, drawings and textile works inspired by Malta’s coastal landscapes and the experience of walking as artistic research. Through layered materials, woven structures, and references to limestone erosion, the exhibition reflects on fragility, transformation, and the connection between body, landscape, and memory.

Walking the Coastline presents a research-led artistic project by Matylda Jarosz that explores the relationship between landscape, sustainability, and contemporary artistic practice. Developed through walking, photography, natural pigments, textiles, and digital media, the exhibition investigates how embodied encounters with coastal environments can inform new approaches to environmental awareness and artistic research.

Visitors are invited to experience an installation that reflects on place, materiality, and ecological interconnectedness through a dialogue between physical and digital processes.

Matylda Jarosz – Artist Biography

Matylda Jarosz is a multidisciplinary artist and researcher whose practice explores the relationship between landscape, sustainability, and contemporary technologies. Working across natural pigments, textiles, photography, digital media, and installation, their work investigates how ecological processes can be translated into artistic forms that encourage reflection on humanity’s relationship with the natural world.

Grounded in walking as both a research methodology and an artistic practice, they collect materials and document landscapes through photography, creating works that emerge directly from place. Natural pigments derived from coastal geology, together with textiles inspired by traditional fibre practices, are combined with digitally generated imagery and moving image to explore the dialogue between physical and virtual environments.

Their research examines sustainability not only as an environmental concern but also as an ethical and creative framework for contemporary art. By bringing together handcrafted materials with computational processes, their installations invite viewers to experience landscape as a living, interconnected system shaped by geological time, ecological change, and human intervention.

They are currently completing a Master’s degree in Fine Arts, where their research focuses on developing sustainable artistic methodologies through the intersection of material experimentation, digital practice, and site-responsive approaches.
