Sustain-Delay’s “SUBLIME IMPERFECTION” featuring POLE, SONITUS ECO, DEAN WENGROW & ACIDULANT

19 July | 9:30 pm

As part of MSA x ACM Performing Arts Programme 2024 – Sustain-Delay series of music events

Sustain-Delay – SUBLIME IMPERFECTION – POLE, SONITUS ECO, DEAN WENGROW, & ACIDULANT

The theme for the fourth Sustain-Delay event for 2024, is “Sublime Imperfection”, highlighting the imperfections that can be used or overcome, which can lead to something greater than the sum of their parts.

POLE (Berlin, Germany)
POLE (Stefan Betke) is a legend and pioneer in the dub techno scene, best known for his immersive soundscapes.
His work is characterised by his innovative use of a faulty piece of equipment to create deep basslines and glitchy textures, along with his work as one of Berlin’s top mastering engineers.
POLE has been featured in some of the most renowned lineups and venues worldwide, including Boiler Room and Superbooth.

SONITUS ECO (Malta)
Complementing Pole’s set will be local producer Sonitus Eco (Justin Meli), a staple in dub techno in Malta. Blending rich textures with deep beats, Sonitus Eco’s music is known for its immersive nature, creating a space to dream and dance.

DEAN WENGROW (UK/Malta)
London-born DJ Dean Wengrow, whose sets are heard annually at Kinemastik as well his own sporadic parties, has consistently brought emotive frequencies to Malta’s dance floors with diverse, genre-crossing sets. For this event his set will take in hypnotic techno, bass and breaks rooted in UK and Berlin club music and sound system culture.

ACIDULANT (Malta)
Acidulant, or Neil Hales, will be combining his love for acid and IDM, with his love for the skies (an aircraft pilot, no less!) to deliver a high-energy, hypnotic performance. Get ready to move to his energetic and captivating sounds.

This event forms part of the Malta Society of Arts’ Performing Arts Programme 2024 which is done in collaboration with Arts Council Malta.

Bringing together musicians from near and far, in 2024, Sustain-Delay presents a year-long programme of acts experimenting with sound: from organic materials to the rhythmic sway of drum machines; mediaeval instruments to ethereal ambient music. Join us as we fill Palazzo De La Salle in Valletta with music previously unexplored by the Malta Society of Arts.

Kurt Buttigieg – Biography

Kurt Buttigieg is an “occasional artist and unwavering tinkerer”, with a perpetual organisational streak.

He read for a Master’s degree in Sound Art from the University of Barcelona and previously worked at the museum of the European Parliament in Brussels as curator for temporary and permanent exhibitions, and also planned spin-off museums in other EU capitals.

He organised numerous concerts, workshops and exhibitions in Malta and Belgium, as well as founding a small label called Complex Holiday documenting “inside-out ambient and sound art tomfoolery”. He is also a writer for several specialised magazines, including The Wire and New Noise.

As an artist and musician he released several works over that past twenty years, under his and other names, and created Malta’s first dedicated sound art installation in 1999.
