Comedy Silent Film Screening with Live Music: The Freshman
Organised by Mużikart Event & Production
The timeless magic of silent cinema returns to Valletta with a special screening of Harold Lloyd’s 1925 classic The Freshman, presented at the Malta Society of Arts with a brand-new, live musical score.
Widely hailed as one of the greatest comedies of the silent era, The Freshman follows the story of an eager yet awkward college newcomer determined to win popularity, success, and a place on the football team.
With Lloyd’s iconic blend of slapstick humour and heartfelt storytelling, this film continues to charm and entertain a century after its release.
What makes this evening truly unique is the live music: an original score performed by a talented ensemble of piano, violin, and double bass.
Specially arranged for this performance, the music adds dynamic energy and emotional nuance to every scene – elevating the film into a rich, multi-sensory experience.
Set in the intimate and acoustically rich setting of the Malta Society of Arts, this event is a rare opportunity to witness a true dialogue between cinema and music, past and present.
