RHYTHMS OF VISION – Music and Videography by Ruben Zahra

22 February | 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Rhythms of Vision

Music and Videography by Ruben Zahra

Organised by NAPA – National Agency for the Performing Arts

Join composer Ruben Zahra for the multimedia concert “Rhythms of Vision” presenting contemporary music interspersed with captivating videography.

This programme presents a selection of chamber works spanning 32 years. Mouse in the Machine (1992), Catch my Breath (2023) and Boiling Clouds (2018) are piano & clarinet duos with the earliest work based on Schoenberg’s 12-tone technique and the other two works displaying Zahra’s distinct style characterised by rhythmic clusters, pulsating groove and aggressive textures.

The other compositions in this programme are composed for piano and video. Since 2007 Zahra has been developing the aesthetic of combining videography in his musical works to create interdisciplinary productions with a visual narrative. In these compositions, the sound design of the video complements the live performance.

Kafka’s Insect (2020) and A Story Left Untold (2024) both include an electronic backtrack, expanding the soundtrack beyond the timbre of the piano keyboard.

“Rhythms of Vision” will be performed for one evening only, Sunday 22 February, here at the Malta Society of Arts.

Places are limited so we encourage you to purchase your tickets as soon as possible.
