Kevin Gill was born and educated in North Yorkshire. He moved to Birmingham to study at the Birmingham School of Music (now Conservatoire) in 1980 and has remained there ever since. After graduating Kevin has since pursued a career as a freelance musician, performer and teacher of Piano, Organ and Music Theory. He was Organist and Choirmaster of St. James the Great, Shirley, Solihull for 34 years before retiring in Summer 2021. Gill taught at the Birmingham School of Acting for 25 years and was Musical Director for the shows Little Me, Into the Woods, A New Brain, Assassins, A Man of no Importance, A Little Night Music’ and ‘Little Women’.
In January 2008 Kevin was appointed Musical Director of Atherstone Choral Society. He has directed them in a variety of works including Haydn Creation, Mozart Requiem and Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial by Jury, Faure Requiem, Britten Rejoice in the Lamb, Rutter Magnificat, Rutter Gloria, Elgar The Music Makers, Vaughan Williams Towards the Unknown Region, Handel’s Messiah’ and ‘The Armed Man’. In addition to this, Kevin is accompanist for the Birmingham Festival Choral Society. He has also worked as a rehearsal pianist with the CBSO Adult and Youth choruses, Birmingham Opera company and the BBC. Kevin has also worked as an Orchestral Pianist with the CBSO at Birmingham Symphony Hall, the NIA, Leeds Town Hall and the Royal Festival Hall. He has also accompanied various Choral Societies in works such as Orff Carmina Burana, Handel Messiah, Britten Rejoice in the Lamb, Bernstein Chichester Psalms, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, and Mozart, Durufle, Brahms and Faure Requiems. He has recently accompanied Birmingham Festival Choral Society in concerts in Coventry Cathedral, Birmingham Town Hall, Tewkesbury Abbey, Malvern Priory, St Paul’s, Hockley, and on tours of Belgium, Holland, Slovenia, Estonia, Slovakia, Ireland, France, Romania and most recently Germany.
Away from music his interests include reading, cinema, theatre and travelling.
