DIVERGENT PERSPECTIVES
CLAY / CRAFT / CONCEPT Catalogue Launch
Join us on Thursday 12 September at 6:30pm at the Malta Society of Arts for the Catalogue Launch of our exhibition CLAY / CRAFT / CONCEPT.
Placing vases and cups next to sculptural objects has not been an uncontroversial curatorial decision. The borderline between art and craft objects is hotly debated and territory fiercely guarded. The careful consideration of the aesthetic value of functional objects has a precedent that weaves through history, all the way back to the very beginning. Think of the beautifully decorated prehistoric instruments that emerged from dig sites all over Malta and Europe, or the richly patterned Greek vases picked off the Mediterranean seafloor.
Clive Zammit and Vince Briffa explore these ideas in their catalogue essays, and will come together in conversation with Nina Gerada and Anna Calleja in order to give space to divergent perspectives.
