BIBLICAL – Sarah Bonnici Live in Concert

BIBLICAL – Sarah Bonnici Live in Concert

The Archbishop’s Delegate for Culture is pleased to present BIBLICAL, a one-off, stripped-back performance by the inimitable Sarah Bonnici on October 9th. Collaborating with visual artist Charlie Cauchi, and curated by Annalisa Schembri, Andrew Borg Wirth and Sera Galea, the evening will pair fragments of sacred imagery from art history with contemporary music, exploring how the sacred feminine continues to persist in culture today.

Taking place at the Malta Society of Arts, the evening brings together artists from different disciplines, presenting a repertoire of popular, alternative and contemporary music. BIBLICAL maps the stories of figures such as Eve, Salome and Bathsheba onto the work of artists including FKA twigs, Olivia Dean and Florence + the Machine. Performing live on piano, Sarah Bonnici will become the central figure in a live video installation created by Charlie Cauchi, one of three artists who recently represented Malta at La Biennale di Venezia.

This project continues the commitment to celebrating local talent, bridging faith with cultural practice and engaging diverse audiences.

Limited seats available. Tickets via ShowsHappening.

Supported by Azzopardi Studio.

Charlie Cauchi – Artist Biography

Charlie Cauchi is an interdisciplinary artist and filmmaker. She holds a BA and an MA in Film Studies from Queen Mary University of London. Her academic contributions focus on small national cinemas, with a particular emphasis on Malta. Her written work includes Titles to Talkies: An Incomplete History of Film Culture & Industry in Malta (2025, Fondazjoni Patrimonju Malti).

Her practice is highly personal, taking a biographical approach. A common preoccupation in her work is runaway productions, often using films shot on location in Malta to untangle identity and representation. She often uses her work to understand and heal fractured familial relationships and to explore identity themes, including gender identity, cultural heritage, and diasporic narratives.

She is also co-founder of Rosa Kwir, Malta’s first dedicated LGBTQI+ gallery and archive, with artist Romeo Roxman Gatt and Sarah Chircop.

Charlie is the first female artist ever chosen to represent Malta at La Biennale di Venezia, as part of a group show No Need to Sparkle: Experiments in Love and Revolution, commissioned by Arts Council Malta.
