A Musical Mosaic – A Classical Music Recital

Join singers Tom Armitage, Lisa Baldacchino, Bettina Zammit, and pianist Elaine Mercieca for an evening of classical music in ‘A Musical Mosaic’. With the performance of pieces by Mozart, Strauss, Faure, Britten, and more, this recital is guaranteed to leave you with a renewed appreciation for the beauty of classical music.

Lisa Baldacchino Biography – Mezzo–Soprano

Lisa’s journey into theatre began at the age of four when she joined Stagecoach Theatre Arts School. From the age of 11, she has been undergoing vocal training as a Mezzo Soprano/Soprano, specializing in classical repertoire under Denise Mulholland. While initially focused on performing, Lisa developed a love for Production Stage Management in 2018, seamlessly juggling between the two roles. In 2020, she expanded her expertise into the realm of Production Management in Film. Now, Lisa proudly assumes the position of Production Executive for Ziguzajg, a renowned children’s theatre program within Spazju Kreattiv.

Bettina Zammit Biography – Soprano

Bettina Zammit is a 22-year-old classical soprano. She is currently under the tuition of Denise Mulholland. At present, Bettina forms part of The Abos Project and Consort (previously known as The Monteverdi Project)where she is guided by soprano Gillian Zammit and Mro Marco Mencoboni, and Opera Unleashed. Whilst living in Belgium in 2021-2022, she received vocal training from Konstantina Thanopoulou. Bettina began training in the performing arts at the School Of Performing Arts Malta (SOPA) at the age of 6.

Bettina recently performed as a soloist in the Arte Lirica Festival (2023) in Bassano Del Grappa, Italy, following a week of masterclasses on the Art of Sung Italian the Veneto Opera Summer School by Melofonetica. In 2023, she also performed in Malta Opera’s devised operetta A Romance of Errorsand in Ziguzajg’s Opera for Young Audiences, Trouser Girl. In 2022, she originated the role of ‘Fillide’ in Caravaggio – The Musical. Prior to this, Bettina played the role of ‘Luisa Von Trapp’ in The Sound of Music (2016). Other past performances include a chorus role in Dido & Aeneas (2021), and various performances as part of The Baroque Festival (2013, 2014, 2024).

Tom Armitage Biography – Tenor

Tom Armitage is a British composer, pianist, and tenor residing in Malta. He gave his first piano recital aged eleven and conducted his first orchestral compositions at the age of thirteen. He studied composition, collaborative piano, and voice at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and composition at the University of Malta.

An award-winning composer, his music has been performed around Europe, Australia, Japan, and the Middle East. His output includes three operas, a piano concerto, and an ever-expanding catalogue of solo piano and chamber works.

As a pianist, Tom has appeared at music festivals across several countries and continents. He is mostly active in the fields of contemporary music and opera, as a répétiteur and collaborative pianist.

Tom’s debut as a tenor came in 2018. Having been initially contracted to work as a répétiteur on the world-premiere of Dutch composer Monique Krüs’ opera, ‘Corto Maltese: The Ballad of the Salty Sea’, he suddenly found himself tasked with creating the role of Captain Christian Slütter. Following this, Tom joined Early Music vocal consort, the Abos Consort and Project (formerly Monteverdi Project), with whom he regularly performs with. He performed the role of the Sailor in Henry Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas at Teatru Manoel with the Monteverdi Project. Tom studies singing with Denise Mulholland.

Elaine Mercieca Biography – Pianist

Elaine is a graduate of the University of Malta having followed a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Music Performance under the tutelage of Mro. Michael Laus, later on acquiring a Post-Graduate Certificate in Music Education at the same institute. Elaine was fortunate enough to be awarded a scholarship through the ‘Master It!’ scheme, and went on to acquire a Master of Music Degree with Distinction at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in the UK. Elaine is currently a full-time piano accompanist and tutor at the Malta Visual and Performing Arts School.
