Oil Painting: Theory & Practice

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the craft and practice of oil painting. Students will study theoretical approaches to understand the practical side of the subject, whilst engaging with the past artistic renditions to increase better understanding of the media. Students will become familiar with diverse painting techniques.
By the end of the course the students will be able to:
– gain mastery in methods of observation and recording skills;
– reflect on concepts;
– respond creatively to develop a painting project; and
– contextualise their own practice within current understandings of what constitutes the act of oil painting.
