Introduction to Puppetry Workshop

Tutor: Theatre Anon

In this new four-session course, participants will explore the fundamentals of making different puppets and how to animate them. Sessions will cover basic techniques in making shadow puppetry, hand puppets and table-top puppets using simple materials and tools for their construction. They will also experiment with manipulating these same puppets through story telling.

The aim of these sessions is for the participants to:

  • Understand basic design concepts of different types of puppets;
  • Gain hands on experience in creating shadow, hand and table-top puppets by: designing, making and assembling the puppets; and
  • Working as individuals and in groups to bring the created characters to life through invented scenarios and story telling

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • improve cognitive skills such as problem-solving, focus and attention;
  • enhance emotional intelligence and social skills through self-expression, understanding of feelings, co-operation and collaboration; and
  • become more creative and use their imagination.
