Figuring Youth Exhibition

Figuring Youth is a theatre and visual arts project exploring the visions of youth on body image. A series of workshops conducted by visual artist and MSA teacher Jesmond Vassallo and theatre artist Victor Jacono with a number of sixth-form students led to the creation of a series of paintings and etchings, as well as a performance. The student participants included Valeriya Lachtikova and Michelle Roethermeier from St. Martin’s College, Jeannie Mercieca and Sonia Muscat from Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School, and Kayleigh Gauci from De La Salle College.

The works resulting from the workshops portray insights into different factors which influence how young people perceive and value the way they look and present themselves in society. Stages of the process can be viewed on the project’s Facebook page.

An exhibition of the visual art works will be open to the public at the Malta Society of Arts for one month starting on 29th March 2017.

The project was conducted in collaboration with the President’s Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society and St. Martin’s College, with the support of Arts Council Malta and River Dream Ltd.
